Social Media
Today seemed like a day that I never thought I would see. It's a Sunday morning and everyone in the congregation has an electronic in their hand. You hear the distinct sound of a muffled vibration in the air. Then all of a sudden you hear the Preacher yell out; " Now for all my Twitter, Facebook and Live stream folks, here's a Repost/Retweet for you straight from heaven!" As I look around and see phones and tablets go to their Facebook & Twitter Pages I am amazed.Stop!!!! Let's rewind 20 years prior to this church. The church that we know had ceiling fans, wooden benches and the closest thing to technology in the church was the heating & air system and the music corner. Now fast forward back to this new age church, how did we get here? What brought us to the point of Church joining in the convergence age of technology? Is this a good move for churches to join in the "Social Movement" bandwagon?
Let's try to answer some of these questions and get the foundation set. Then let's hear what you have to say.....
What is Convergence?
A: Convergence as defined in my Mass Comm. Class is the combining of distributions of messages in various media formats.
Do you believe that Churches can benefit from the use of Social Media Sites and the Internet for the forward progression of their Ministry?
So leave me your thoughts...I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say!
Any reputable group, business or church needs to utilize the social media. People regularly look to Facebook pages to find information about a church, such as the mission statement, hours, information about the pastors, what kinds of programs they have. In a sense it gives people a view to what you are about at their leisure. It also will help parishioners. It lets them know of upcoming events, lets them send prayer requests and even welcome new people. For pastors, it's a great way to remind people all week of what our beliefs are all about and how we can continue to use them Monday through Saturday.

ReplyDeleteI hope this post is not a duplicate...still new to blogging..
ReplyDeleteMy comment was that I am a bookworm and have been since early school age days...I will always love my physical book in hand where I can make notes in the margins, highlight key comments and quotes and place physical bookmarks in the binder so I can refer to the same place at a later date...
Seems like hand held devices to me are impersonal and when technology like that goes down, it seems as if we are at a loss as to what to do as if we have forgotten the basics and really don't want to go back to it..I am all for ministries using all forms of social media to make others who are constantly on this type of media aware of service times and other pertinent information.
So I may be one slow to change but give me my well used King James Bible any day.
